Pittosporum 'Tandaras Gold'

Pittosporum 'Tandaras Gold'

“Tandara’s Gold” is an evergreen shrub with thick, leathery foliage. The oval leaves are attached to reddish-purple stems and branches.

Flowering occurs during the months of May and June. The flowers are often very subtle, but present deliciously sweet honey and vanilla aromas which attract pollinators like bees. The flowers are followed much later in the season with small, brown fruit.

Tolerant of most soil types. However, this plant prefers soil that is well-drained. They are especially good in full sun to partially shaded areas. Hardy down to -10°C, they will fare better in sheltered positions that protect them from cold winter winds.

Also, pruning for size in late summer can help adjust for appropriate size and growth in courtyard or urban garden areas. In general, light pruning is recommended. The pruning can also be done in early spring to remove any limbs that were affected by the cold.

Suggested uses are as landscaping ornamentals or as compact hedging. This variety works well in more rustic gardens, like around a cottage.
