Winter Squash 'Waltham Butternut'

Winter Squash 'Waltham Butternut'

Organic and easy to grow, these seeds develop into vibrant Butternut Squash plants, with each plant producing up to 4 large fruits. Waltham Winter Butternut is a popular variety boasting pale golden skins with bright orange flesh underneath. The elongated, bell-shaped fruits grow on trailing vines and are usually grown as a half-hardy annual.

Winter Squash Butternut Waltham has a sweet, nutty flavour and is bursting with goodness, including antioxidants, fibre, and vitamins A and C. Squash can be used to make delicious soups and sauces and pairs well with pasta, chicken, and fish. It can also be roasted to create a hearty side dish.

Grow in a sheltered, sunny spot in slightly acidic moist but well-draining soil. Feed with a high potassium fertiliser when the fruits start to swell. This cultivar stores extremely well - simply keep in in a cool, dark, dry place for use throughout autumn and winter.

Sow Butternut Squash seeds indoors from January to March or outside from May to June. Plant out from May, when the risk of frost has passed, allowing 120cm between plants. Harvest from July to October.
